Interpreting means supporting linguistic and cultural communication between two or more speakers of different languages at the spoken level.
Liason interpreting involvs 360° oral mediation, consisting in the oral translation of each conversational turn as soon as this is over, and is mostly used in business meeting, in companies or at trade fairs or exhibitions, but also in any other context requiring a language and culture mediator (e.g. in hospitals, law courts, schools, etc.). It differs from simultaneous interpreting, which is performed in real time, usually for many people, with the help of booths and earphones (typically at conferences), and from consecutive interpreting, in which the interpreter takes notes on and sums up what is being said by a foreign language speaker at regular intervals (e.g. at conferences, round tables, tv shows, etc.).
